Tree Stories LLC:
Creatively Connecting People & Plants
I love people. And I love plants. And people and plants are kind of in this Earth-thing together. After years as a classroom teacher, writer, forester, and naturalist, I want to creatively help connect kids and adults to the magic of plants in their communities. That’s why I’m starting Tree Stories LLC. A few key ideas guide this work:
Plants are alive, intelligent, and complex. They’ve been on Earth for awhile. Let’s learn from them and with them.
Ecology and plant science can be fun, funny, and sometimes magical. It should never be dry and boring.
Developing better relationships to plants enriches our lives.
Story-telling and relationships are key to understanding plants (and ourselves). Please note these concepts are borrowed from Indigenous writers and leaders, and I try to use them respectfully as a non-Native.
Services
School visits and lessons! Provide educational programming, support, training, and standards-aligned lessons to schools, organizations, camps, and educational partners with special focuses on experiential learning with trees & weaving Life Science and English Langauge Arts.
Set up interpretive signs, materials, and infrastructure with curricular connections for K-12 school campuses. For example, do you have trees or gardens at your school? Do teachers know how to utilize them for science lessons and units? I can help! Trees are living models for science
Tree Walks! Let’s take a walk together and laugh and learn about trees. My tree walks are an interactive mix of story-telling, history, science, and a little comedy. Tree walks can be organized for organizational events, conferences, fundraising, professional development, festivals, or business promotions (aka I can walk 20 people tor your establishment as an endpoint).
Plant writing classes for botanical gardens! In these classes, we discuss plant science and philosophy and then expore botanical collections through reflective, sensory writing.
More services coming! This is all pretty fresh. Please reach out if interested in any of these or if you have other ideas
